Free Bikes 4 Kidz Maryland is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliate of a national organization geared toward helping all children ride into a happier, healthier childhood by providing bikes to kids most in need. The public donates gently used bikes in October; we clean, refurbish, and repair them with thousands of volunteers and then give them away to kids in need in December. We currently give away more than 10,000 bikes every year in over a dozen locations around the U.S.—over 100,000 bikes since 2008.
It’s a simple concept: Every year 8 million kids’ bikes are outgrown in the U.S., so there is an endless supply of bikes that are no longer needed by their current owners. But there are other kids that do need bikes, whose families can not afford them. We work with government and nonprofit organizations to identify those kids, and give them bikes we’ve collected and refurbished. In 2019, Free Bikes 4 Kidz rode into Maryland, and in three years we have we collected and given away 3263 bicycles to local children in need.
